Library Services


A resource room is available on site with access to relevant reading materials. HSC employees are also reminded of the HSC library facilities at Knockbracken.


The Library is located in Clady Villa (Building 45) within the grounds of Knockbracken Healthcare Park. It is part of the Health and Social Care (HSC) network of libraries at Antrim, Craigavon, and Altnagelvin hospital sites. The two Belfast libraries are: Medical Library on the Royal Victoria Hospital site and Biomedical Library on the Belfast City Hospital site.

All HSC Trust and Public Safety (PS) authorities and anyone attending courses at the Centre are eligible to use the library. HSC staff can register in person or by completing the application form available from Library registration is free.

Registration forms must be accompanied by proof of employment with Health and Social Services, e.g. copy of work ID, or letter of appointment. All services are available to users unable to visit the library in person. Associate membership is available to those not otherwise eligible on payment of an annual subscription.

Online Resources

HONNI (Health On the Net Northern Ireland) is a website designed specifically for HSC staff. It is a gateway to relevant resources on Nursing & Midwifery, Allied Health, Medicine, Health Management, Social Work, psychology, dentistry and pharmacy.

These resources include databases, electronic journals, clinical guidelines and quality internet sites. The HONNI customised search engine can be used to search multiple resources simultaneously including CINAHL, Medline, Cochrane, PEDro and Proquest Medical Library.

Subject librarians based in the Medical Library on the Royal Hospital Site are available to help with using HONNI. Group training sessions can be arranged at place of work.
