Purpose
This succession planning initiative, ‘Building Leadership Capacity’, will be used to maximise the possibility of having a high quality pool of applicants who can apply for future vacancies at Director levels (including Clinical Director and Associate Medical Director). This will support the filling of posts in a timely way and in addition will have the benefit of building and strengthening leadership capacity across the HSC.
Learning Outcomes
It will prepare and challenge aspiring Directors so that they can transform how health and social care is provided now and in the future. Through the provision of a personalised development menu designed to meet the individual needs of participants, the ‘Building Leadership Capacity’ initiative will increase confidence, resilience, systems thinking, interpersonal skills and professional knowledge to ensure the delivery of high quality patient focused services.

This programme will cost 2 MD places from your 17/18 SLA and 1 MD places from your 18/19 SLA.TBC
Objectives
The main objectives of the initiative are to:
- Develop a comprehensive, bespoke, transparent and effective regional succession planning approach;
- Increase the pool and potential of Leaders who are ready and able to take up Director positions in the future;
- Realise the need, as identified through the regional workshops, for effective leadership, to achieve high standards of care and performance within the Health and Social Care system;
Develop a collaborative approach to succession planning across the system to increase support and opportunities for the development for whole systems Leaders
