Purpose

This session is a repeat of the module offered on the Chrysalis programme.  The term ‘quality improvement’ refers to the systematic use of methods and tools to try to continuously improve quality of care and outcomes for patients.  SAS doctors and dentists are well placed to recognise and lead on initiatives which will improve services as they tend to work in one area over a longer period of time than other medical staff.   This session will introduce you to a range of QI theories and methodologies and give you an understanding of the QI structures and support available at Trust and regional level.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explore Quality Improvement theory and tools.
  • Understand QI v continuous improvement.
  • Data and measurement in QI.
  • Understand the system wide QI context in Northern Ireland.
