Microsoft Excel Introduction

This is an in-person instructor-led course which will give attendees an overview of the basics of Microsoft Excel.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Create, edit, save, and manage Excel workbooks, including moving and copying data within and between workbooks
  • Apply formatting to worksheets to improve layout, readability, and presentation of data
  • Navigate Excel efficiently, using keyboard shortcuts and features such as Freeze Panes to work with data effectively.
  • Perform basic calculations and use common functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and functions such as SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX and MIN.
  • Visualise and organise data, using Autofill, Flash Fill, and by creating formatting basic charts

Microsoft Excel Intermediate

This instructor led course will extend attendees knowledge of Microsoft Excel to include filtering data, collaborative working and templating.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Use data automation tools, including Autofill and Flash Fill, to efficiently populate and transform worksheet data
  • Apply advanced and worksheet techniques, such as conditional formatting, absolute cell referencing, and templates, to improve accuracy and consistency
  • Analyse and manage list data, using filtering, subtotals, and conditional functions such as IF, COUNTIF, SUMIF, and AVERAGEIF
  • Link, consolidate, and visualise data, connecting information across worksheets and creating charts that can be linked to other applications
  • Manage data securely within Microsoft 365, understanding data protection principles and using round-tripping to work confidently across Microsoft 365 apps

This consecutive two-day course will give participants the skills to unlock Excel’s full potential by using some of its advanced features.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Enter, organise, and manage data effectively using Excel tables, including adding, editing, and sorting records
  • Apply basic formulas (such as SUM, AVERAGE, and IF) to perform calculations and support simple data analysis
  • Format cells and tables confidently to improve readability, consistency, and presentation of data
  • Create and use basic PivotTables to summarise, analyse, and explore data sets
